This community-centered gathering honors the ancestral and ongoing work of birth workers in Gullah Geechee and Lowcountry communities. Through an intergenerational panel and dialogue, Labor of Love explores birthwork as sacred labor, cultural preservation, and collective care—centering maternal and mental health while addressing ongoing inequities. Open to birth workers, families, and community members committed to birth justice and the health and dignity of families.

In observance of World Doula Week, this seminar explores the vital role doulas play in supporting families across the Lowcountry and beyond; from pregnancy through postpartum care. Participants will gain insight into the history, advocacy, and community impact of doulas, and learn how their work advances maternal health and birth equity in the region.
